100ml Spiced rum. We really like gingerbread spiced rum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

25g dried apricots1l almond milk (sweetened)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Soak the fruit, nuts and mixed spice in the alcohol. Leave covered overnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following day tip the mixture into a blender and add the vanilla extract and almond milk. Now blend until super smooth (you may want to sieve the mixture).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Serve over ice with some grated nutmeg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, how do you keep your Christmas outfit clean whilst cooking up a festive feast in the kitchen? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a brand new Slate House Christmas apron<\/a> of course!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why not try baking these gingerbread biscuits? You could bake these fun biscuits with your kids as a yearly Christmas tradition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ingredients:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

100g salted butter. We love using Shirgar Welsh Butter<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3 tbsp golden syrup<\/p>\n\n\n\n

100g fair-trade dark muscovado sugar<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00bd tsp bicarbonate of soda<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1 tbsp ground ginger<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1 tsp ground cinnamon<\/p>\n\n\n\n

225g plain flour<\/p>\n\n\n\n

50g icing sugar<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Method:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Place the butter, sugar and syrup in a pan and heat over a low heat until everything has melted. Stir occasionally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take off the heat and leave to cool a little.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mix the bicarbonate of soda, ground ginger, ground cinnamon and flour together in a bowl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pour the butter, sugar and syrup mixture into the bowl and stir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using your hands to mix, create gingerbread dough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Line a rectangle baking tray with baking parchment. Roll out the dough in to a rectangle shape around \u00bd cm thick. Place on the baking parchment and cover with another sheet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Place the rolled out gingerbread dough in the fridge for approximately an hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heat the oven to gas mark 5 and line another baking tray with parchment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remove the dough from the fridge and cut out fun shapes using cookie cutters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Place the biscuits on the tray and bake for approximately 8 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leave the biscuits to cool completely on the baking sheet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mix the icing sugar with 1-2 tbsp of water and pipe on to your gingerbread biscuits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, fill the spaces between your cheeses with your favourite accompaniments. We love a mixture of cashew nuts and walnuts, oat biscuits, water crackers and breadsticks. Grapes are always a must on our festive cheeseboard and a few figs always give your platter some extra class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ve got some top tips when it comes to dressing your Christmas Tree.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1 \u2013 Tree.<\/strong> When using an artificial Christmas tree ensure you properly shape the branches of your tree. Separate each branch and expand each one to fill in the areas to look more like a real tree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2 \u2013 Lights<\/strong>. Always add your lights first (unless of course you have a pre-lit tree). In fact, make sure your lights work before you add them to your tree. Believe us, we\u2019ve made that mistake before. Make sure the plug reaches the power point and then start to wrap your lights from the bottom to the top. Once the lights are added, make sure they cover the tree evenly. Adjust accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3 \u2013 Decorations.<\/strong> Balance your decorations and we don\u2019t mean with a weighing scale. Take a look at your decorations and evenly decorate your tree with the colours and sizes of your tree decorations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4 \u2013 Tree Topper.<\/strong> Your tree topper is the crown of your tree. Choose something that goes with the theme of your tree. Whether it\u2019s a golden star, an angel or perhaps a large bow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5 \u2013 Tree Skirt.<\/strong> Finish your tree with a \u2018skirt\u2019. This can cover any unsightly metal legs or can catch the dropping needles from your real tree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
