Spring is just around the corner, and for some of us, its an excuse to freshen up our homes for the new season.
Now, not everyone has the time or money to completely redecorate our homes but just by updating your furnishings and accessories, you can revive your home and bring a bit of colour back into your life after the cold winter months.
Here’s Slate House’s take on the trends for your home this Spring!
The Danish word, Hygge, is the newest lifestyle trend to sweep the UK and is making people appreciate the good moments in life, whether they are simple or special. Hygge (pronounced hue-gah) has no direct translation to English but is widely referred to as a feeling of ‘cosy contentment’.
Much like the Welsh word ‘Cwtch’, which has become one of the nation’s favourite words, introducing hygge into your home is about creating a comforting and safe place for yourself and your family to retreat to. It’s about escaping the everyday to experience true relaxation and it’s the tiny additions that can make all the difference.
Denmark are said to be one of the biggest consumers of candles, scented and non-scented in the world and the warm glow of candlelight helps turn they homes into a warm, safe haven from the outside world and are fundamental to a hygge moment. With the large flame of our crackling wooden wicks, our soy wax candles will help you achieve the feeling of relaxation and comfort in your home whilst our refreshing scents, such as Jasmine, Passion Fruit, Mixed Berries and Coconut, will have you dreaming of sunshine and flowers.
When thinking of cosiness and warmth the mind instantly goes to snuggly throws and fluffy cushions. Layering a variety of textures, like Melin Tregwynt blankets and Baa Stool sheepskin cushions, will give interest to a neutral colour scheme. Cwtching up under a warm throw with a cuppa in candlelight doesn’t get anymore hygge.
And just because its springtime doesn’t mean you have to lose that cosy feeling. Soft furnishings in sorbet and pastel colours are always a must in spring and our new Lizzie Dixon cushions are perfect to refresh your home and provide comfort.
Scandinavian interiors have become incredibly popular in recent months and another trend to sweep the UK is Nordic style kitchens. Clean lines, neutral colours and understated elegance underpin this look. Nordic style also relies on artisan homewares; that celebrate craftsmanship and are made from materials that require a high level of skill to work with them. This is exactly what Slate House as a company hopes to achieve! We select all of our products from local artists and companies in Wales because of the high level of skill and quality in the products.
Rustic selections of artisan pottery in irregular shapes and unique glaze patterns will add artistic quality to any scheme. Pops of blue throughout your kitchen and dining room will add contemporary touch to the chic style of Scandinavian cookware – inky hues and denim blues are particularly popular this Spring. David Small and Tythegston pottery will make the perfect finishing touch to your kitchen, and this particular look.
If you want to follow the Nordic theme in your home, but want to steer away from whites and creams, grey is the new neutral. Much like traditional neutral colours, grey complements a spectrum of colours and creates a minimalist look, whilst helping you evolve from the pale but not going overboard. A monochrome kitchen with statement stone is also a key trend this season where grey can also be a feature. Keeping the colours simple helps create a relaxed vibe.
Slate House is known for its Welsh slate home ware and is an obvious way of achieving all of these trends in one sweep. Dark tableware such as our Welsh slate placemats, coasters and cheeseboards will make food the star of the show, and we can personalise all of the slate kitchenware to add a personal touch. Our Welsh slate wine racks will become the focal point of your kitchen. Each one is a one-off piece, meaning you won’t see two alike.
Along with statement stones and simple, monochrome colours, this Spring is about going back to basics and embracing an industrial style in the kitchen. Our steel bakestones, made from Pickled Steel in Bridgend, will have you reminiscing of times past, baking welsh cakes in your Mamgu’s kitchen, whilst our the neutral colours and timeless designs of our Welsh storage tins will add a hint of vintage to your home. Lastly our cheese knifes and herb choppers celebrate traditional blacksmithing in Wales but are contemporary piece to make a statement at your dinner table.
